Define the decision before the model
Start by identifying what the workflow is allowed to change. Drafting a recommendation and executing an external action have different consequences. Map those differences into explicit permissions, review steps, and stopping conditions before choosing prompts or models.
Keep authorization deterministic
A model can help interpret context, summarize evidence, and suggest a next step. Permission to act should come from an enforceable policy. Check identity, purpose, resource, and current authority at the point of execution, where a stale assumption could otherwise become a real change.
Make oversight useful
A review screen should show what will change, why it was proposed, what evidence supports it, and how to stop it. Human approval is most valuable when the person can understand the decision. Preserve a record of the approved action and verify its result afterward.
